ING Bank and Generali Romania launch insurance payment services via RoPay QR code scanning

ING Bank and Generali Romania announce the launch of RoPay Facturi, a digital solution that significantly simplifies the process of paying for insurance services. Starting in October, insurance premium payment documents issued by Generali will include a RoPay QR code that can be scanned directly from the bank’s mobile app, offering a fast, secure, and intuitive payment experience.

This integration reflects ING Bank’s commitment to transforming the banking experience by implementing efficient digital solutions that are relevant to customers’ everyday lives. Scanning the QR code allows instant payments to be initiated without the need to manually enter bank details or card information. The process is seamless and simple, and Generali customers can quickly pay for insurance services, provided their bank offers this functionality.

“We are constantly focused on simplifying interaction with our customers, and integrating the RoPay solution via QR code on payment documents is a natural step. In addition to saving time on purchasing insurance services and processing payments, it eliminates the risk of incorrect card or IBAN data entry, all with enhanced data security. We are proud to be among the first insurers to implement this modern solution and to help our customers get insured more conveniently and quickly,” said Ileana Damian, Chief Operations Officer, Generali Romania.

The solution is part of the national RoPay instant mobile payment service without a card, developed by TRANSFOND, together with financial and banking institutions, which allows users to make instant transfers between individuals, without commissions, but also to pay merchants using the mobile banking application to scan QR codes.

“The Romanian public is still getting used to RoPay payment solutions, but we are confident that they will become a market standard—both for transfers between individuals and for payments to merchants or service providers. Generali is once again demonstrating its commitment to customer experience by introducing the RoPay QR code on payment documents, thus facilitating a simple and efficient way to go through this process. We are ready to expand the implementation of RoPay solutions alongside our customers,” said Raluca Țintoiu, Deputy CEO & Head of Wholesale Banking, ING Bank Romania.

For transaction security, scanning is performed exclusively from the mobile banking applications of the banks where Generali customers have accounts, with full encryption and biometric authentication or dynamic passwords. Thus, the solution ensures a high level of protection for personal and banking data, reducing the risk of fraud attempts associated with QR codes.

“We are delighted that the RoPay solution continues to bring real benefits to customers, simplifying everyday payments of all kinds (in this case, P2B – Person-to-Business) and transforming the financial experience into one that is fast, enjoyable, and secure, accessible to all, and tailored to the modern needs of users. We would like to thank our partners at ING Bank for their active involvement and support in implementing this innovative solution, which has all the makings of a true national brand,” said Sabin Carantină, General Manager of TRANSFOND.
