Lloyds bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland mobile banking apps go down | News UK
Users of a popular banking app are facing an unwelcome payday surprise this morning.
The Lloyds Bank app, used by millions of people across the UK, is down for thousands of people, stopping them from being able to access their money.
Tracking website DownDetector started receiving reports at about 5am today, with the number of reported outages increasing steeply since then.
Of those reports, 60% say they are having problems with mobile banking, with several leaving comments suggesting their app closes as soon as they open it.
On X, one customer wrote: ‘I’ve just transferred money from another bank to Lloyds so I can pay my bills. And now I can’t get access to my money as my app keeps crashing!’

Lloyds Bank also owns Halifax and the Royal Bank of Scotland, and DownDetector is also reporting outages with the Halifax app – though none have been reported on the RBS app so far this morning.
Lloyds is yet to issue an official statement about the outage, but has replied to several customers affected on X.
A spokesperson said: ‘Hi, I’m Scott. Sorry about this. Some customers are having issues with our app right now. Bear with us as we fix this.’
Customers affected by the outage are being advised to wait and try to access the app again later on.
Both banks have posted an identical statement on X saying their apps are up and running shortly after 9am on Thursday.
They said: ‘Our app is up and running, but for some customers it’s taking a bit longer than usual to get logged on at the moment.
‘Please wait a few extra moments or give logging on another try.’
